Aike (1975) studied Dutch law and Notarial law at the University of Amsterdam and started his legal career in 2001 at Clifford Chance in Amsterdam. In 2004 Aike joined the lawfirm De Vos & Partners Advocaten in Amsterdam. During this period Aike also worked as part-time assistant with the T.M.C. Asser Institute in The Hague, the leading research institute in the field of international law. Between 2007 and 2010 Aike worked at the law firm of VanEps Kunneman Van Doorne in Curacao and lectured Private International Law at the University of the Dutch Antilles. From Curacao Aike not only served clients from the Caribbean region, but also focussed on Latin American countries in the region. In 2011 Aike completed the post-graduate Grotius course on Transport Law.
Aike runs a commercial and corporate practice with a focus on international trade- and transport matters (contentious and non-contentious), and his clients include traders, manufacturers, ship owners, banks, insurers and exporting companies (perishables) mostly from Latin America. Aike advises and litigates on all aspects of international corporate, trade and transport law and on the financing thereof. Aike is fluent in English and Spanish, due to which he has built a considerable client base in Latin-America and serves a number of European based companies trading in amongst others Colombia and Ecuador.
